So we’ve been a bit quiet since Christmas, a combination of taking a much needed break, my wax melter dying just days before Christmas and the much talked Auckland ‘summer’ has meant we weren’t out and about at markets as much as we would’ve liked! With that being said we have been very busy behind the scene and have some really exciting changes coming this year.
Upping our Game
This past year has been great for learning what has worked and what hasn’t when it comes to making and selling candles. One thing we’ve learnt is no matter how much testing and research we do ourselves, its not until something is out in the market and we start to receive feedback that we know if something is a success or a failure. As a result of feedback we’re going to be doing a few things differently this year
One of our biggest changes to come have been a result of success. We’ve spent that last couple of months researching and developing the look and feel of The Candle Apothecary.
We’re effectively going to be ‘relaunching’, without wanting to spoil the surprises, here is some of the things that will be a bit different soon.
Wicks – This is my ‘sad’ change. I love wood wicks. The added element of ‘atmosphere’, the cracking sound they give off adds to the whole experience of burning a candle. From research and feedback it has become apparent that they are also very fickle and only like burning well in the most perfect of conditions! As a result of that we’re retiring the wood wicks and moving to a paper braid style, ‘self-trimming’ wick in our candles. Whilst it’s a shame to be moving away from the wood wicks, I love the new ones and feel they’re the best option to use in our candles.
Jars – We’re sticking with the black jam jar style, but I’ve finally found the ones I always wanted!
Boxes – Say Good-bye to the generic 1 size fits all boxes and say hello to customised Candle Apothecary ones! These have been made to measure for the new jars.
Labels – These are something else I’m really excited about! They not only look good but feel good too!
Names – The candle numbers have been great and saved us a lot of time coming up with fancy names, but they don’t give enough information ‘at a glance’. We will be moving to a more descriptive name for each scent.
New scents – Of course there was always going to be work going on in this area too, some single scent (non blended) and a kitchen/chefs candle are on their way.
I’m sure you can see, with everything new that’s coming why we’re calling it a bit of a relaunch. Keep an eye out on our social media as we start revealing and teasing some of the new look and changes.
As always, it’s great to hear from you so feel free to get in touch if you have any questions, comments or feedback.
Take care
