An Interesting Start
The Candle Apothecary has been officially ‘open’ now for a few months and it’s incredible how much I have learnt. Everything from how to be more efficient when making candles, supply chain, social media marketing (still learning!) and how to set up an aesthetically pleasing market stall. It's been interesting to see how one person will love a scent and the person they're with simply doesn't!
I’m going to take a moment to say, I’ve been very lucky that I have an amazing group of friends who are my ‘scent testing team’. They have given me very honest feedback around my new ideas, given me great advice on marketing (even while on maternity leave with a 2 year old and a new born) and a whole squad of friends and family who are really supportive of this whole adventure. I want to take this opportunity to thank them all, because they’re the best!
New stuff coming
In the last few weeks I’ve been back in my ‘lab’ playing with ideas for new scents and ways of expanding the range a bit. I love this part of candle making and I get inspiration in two different ways, sometimes I think of a memory or a ‘situation’ I want to capture the scent of and other times I think of scent blends that I think will work together. Recently its been a bit of both and I think I’m getting close to two new candles to add to the range, keep an eye out on Facebook and Instagram for updates on what’s going on there! As well as new scents I’ve also been looking into diffusers, which again has kept me busy in the ‘lab’ as I try and get the right balance of scent to diffuser oil, whist also trying to find the best diffuser bottles that complement the candle jars.
I’ve also been working on a couple of more ‘practical’ candles that are ready to go, but unfortunately due to supply chain issues I’m still waiting on some new jars for them so they may not be ready until the start to middle of December. They’re a different spin on the ‘numbers’ but I’m really pleased with them and hope you will be too.
The Christmas season is on us!
It’s hard to believe we’re into November already and that means people are starting to think about Christmas presents. In the last week or so I’ve been busy taking new photos for the online store and re-writing the candle descriptions to make them easier to read. I’ve also been working on my market calendar, whist it’s not the complete list so far if you’re in the Auckland region and want to pop along I’ll be in Kingsland on the 5th November at the 14oz Denim outlet store flea Market, and on the 8th November and 22nd December at the Takapuna Sunset market. There will be more, and the best way of keeping up to date as to where I’ll be will be to make sure you’re following on Instagram and Facebook.
If you’re not in Auckland and are thinking of purchasing a candle, the Scent Sample Pack is a great way to try out all of the current scents, and you’ll get a $5 off discount code to use on your next purchase. You can also order individual tins if you’re tossing up between 1 or 2 different ideas.
With Christmas coming I recommend Candles No. 3 and No. 6. No. 3 has a Northern Hemisphere wintery vibe that gets you excited that Christmas is on the way, whist No. 6 has been described to me as "full blown Christmas!".
That's it for now, take care and I'll speak to you soon.
